Some day you will look back on your life and see that some of your best decisions were entirely spontaneous. Hallstatt, Austria is literally the perfect picture to illustrate this in my own life.

My older sister came to visit me in Hungary in the spring of 2012, and her being the music and musical lover that she is, I knew I had to take her to Salzburg, Austria. It was my third trip to Salzburg, which believe me is nothing to complain about, but I was hoping to dig up something in the area– a town, a mountain, a scene– which would be new for the both of us. I can’t even recall how Hallstatt came on to our radar, but it was after we’d already spent a day in Salzburg and we were trying to decide if we should continue exploring there or venture out a little bit. Thankfully my sister was up for a little adventure and trusted me even when I said I had no idea and we’d have to just see as we go when it came to getting tickets, catching buses, etc…

If my memory serves me well the train and bus ride was about 2 hours or so from Salzburg with at least one change. It was absolutely worth every penny and every minute spent. It was not difficult to get there and I specifically remember the bus drivers and station workers as being ready to help, going above and beyond. (I think on our return trip we weren’t sure which train we should take and we asked a simple question and they gave us very specific directions how to get all the way back to exactly our hotel before dark.)

Arriving in Hallstatt we stepped off the bus, and the peaceful village air and the absolutely magical scenery immediately took us to another world. See for yourself! If you’re into sweetly decorated doors and windows, wooden chalets, calm scenes of lakes and mountains, and even a little church history– this album is for you. I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the story-telling.
